What causes grey hair?

What causes grey hair?

Grey hair is caused from the loss of the natural melanin with the hair; it’s this melanin that determines our coloration of the hair. This can be lost also if the body is going through difficult changes, it is not only lost through age.

Is there a difference between how men go grey and how women do?

There is no difference at all; grey hair or the genetics within the melanin is the same for all.

Can men use the same products as women to cover grey? If not, why not?

I’m about five per cent grey now, can I do anything to prevent more grey coming?

The same products can definitely be used for both men and women, the only suggestion I could make is for a man to use a more semi permanent color as it has the potential of looking a lot more natural for a man. There is really nothing seriously you can do to prevent going grey, a good healthy diet with minimal stress is very helpful.

I’ve got a thick streak of grey hair growing from the front of my hair on one side – I have black hair and it looks ridiculous, what can I do?

There could be two ways of addressing this; one can be to cover the grey streak with color close to your natural tone. The disadvantage of this is that you with have a re-growth coming through just on the grey area as the hair grows. The other option is to lighten the natural base of your hair so it becomes lighter and the grey streak would not become so obvious. What you have to remember is that when you start to color the hair there is a certain amount of maintenance involve. If this is ok for you then there is no issue to coloring the hair.
